DESCRIPTION

The USB-ISO-485 is an industrial-grade bi-directional USB powered 2500V opto-isolated USB to RS485/RS422 converter, which makes a half-duplex RS485 or a full-duplex RS422 available to a PC via the USB port. The USB-ISO-485 optical isolation protects the USB from voltage surges, lightning strikes, GND loops and noise conditions from the RS485/RS422 port. The USB-ISO-485 has a RJ-45 female connector, DB9 male connector on the RS485/RS422 port with optional included 5 position terminal block, and a USB type A female on the USB port. The adapter is powered from the USB port and no external power is needed. USB cable, terminal block, and drivers are included in the package. This converter operates from 300 to 128,000 bps.

The USB-ISO-485 uses the latest FTDI chipset and is fully compatible with (32 /64 bits) versions of Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista, XP, and 98: Windows Server 2022, 2019, 2016, 2012 R2, 2012, 2008 R2, 2008, 2003 R2, 2003 Mac 10.3 â€" 10.15, and Linux.

UUsing one USB-ISO-485 unit:

  1. Check that all connections comply with the connection diagrams.
  2. Perform a loop back test on one unit:
    1. Connect the T/R+ to RXD+ and T/R- to RXD- on the RS-422 port.
    2. Connect the USB connector on the cable to the USB port of the computer.
    3. Install the USB-ISO-485 FTDI driver on the computer per instructions provided.
    4. Running a hyper terminal program on the PC, send ASCII characters to the USB-ISO-485 converter from one PC port, and check that the characters are received at the same PC port. This tests that the transmit and receive functions of the USB-ISO-485 unit is working properly.
    5. When power is on the RED light will be on.  When there is constant RX data you should see the YELLOW light blink.  When there is constant TX data you should see the GREEN light blink.

Using two USB-ISO-485 units:

  1. Check that all connections comply with the connection diagrams.
  2. Perform a loop back test on two units:
    1. Connect the T/R+ to T/R+ and T/R- to T/R- on the USB-ISO-485 RS-485 ports.
    2. Connect the two USB connectors to the USB ports of the computers.
    3. Install the USB-ISO-485 FTDI driver on the computer per instructions provided.
    4. Running hyper terminal programs on both PCs, send ASCII characters to the USB-ISO-485 converter from one PC port, and check that the characters are received at the 2nd PC port. Repeat the test in the opposite direction. This tests that the transmit and receive functions of both USB-ISO-485 units are working properly.
    5. When power is on the RED light will be on.  When there is constant RX data you should see the YELLOW light blink.  When there is constant TX data you should see the GREEN light blink.
