1) WHAT ARE FIBER OPTICS AND HOW ARE THEY USED?
Answer: Fiber optics is a communication technology (transmitters, cables, and receivers) for carrying data from a transmitter to a receiver using light rather then electrical signals. The light signal is transmitted over a glass or plastic fiber within the cable. Fiber can transmit data over longer distances with considerably less signal degradation than that of electrical signals transmitted over wire. Fiber offers greater bandwidth than electrical wire, which results in fiber's faster data throughput. In addition, fiber optic cable is immune to most remote lightning strikes, voltage surges, and electromagnetic interference.
