1) HOW IS A LOOPBACK TEST PERFORMED ON AN RS232 COM PORT?
Answer: To test an RS232 COM port, connect pin 2 (TX) to pin 3 (RX) on the DB9 connector. Using any HyperTerminal software (such as AccessPort - available for free on our website), setup the COM port associated with the computer’s RS232 connector on the HyperTerminal (baud rate, data bits, parity, and stop bits). Transmit ASCII characters to the COM Port. You should receive an echo of the characters being sent. The loopback test will check both the transmit and receive functions of the RS232 COM port.
