DESCRIPTION

The ISO-232-3P9 is an industrial-grade, high speed port powered, bi-directional 5000V (5000Vrms min AC) optically isolated RS232 port 3 wire isolator in a 9 pin format which will operate reliably up to almost 1 mbps. The ISO-232-3P9 optically isolates the 3 lines: TX, RX, and GND which effectively protects your RS232 devices from transient surges, lightning strikes, ground loops and noise issues. The unit is powered from the RS232 data lines so no external power is necessary. It also supports data direction auto-turnaround requiring no flow control. The ISO-232-3P9 has a DB9 female connector on one RS232 side and a DB9 male connector on the other RS232 side. This converter operates from 300 to 912,600 bps.

Using one ISO-232-3P9 unit:

  1. Check that all connections comply with the connection diagrams.
  2. Perform a loop back test on one unit:
    1. Connect the ISO-232-3P9 in between RS-232 path.
    2. If there is continuity in the data stream then it is working. If the ISO-232-3P9 is not being powered properly it will not work at all.

Perform a voltage test:

  1. Check that all connections comply with the connection diagrams.
  2. Perform a detailed voltage test:
    1. Connect the ISO-232-3P9 in between RS-232 path.
    2. With a multi-meter perform the following test: Connect pin 1 to pin 5 and connect pin 2 to pin 3. When static pin 2 should be 0V and pin 3 should be 5.5V. When dynamic pin 2 should be 0V and pin 3 should be 3.7V.
